New edition of Portuguese Pharmacopoeias released by Bluepharma

The “Codigo Pharmaceutico Lusitano” is the second pharmacopoeia released by Bluepharma in collaboration with the University of Coimbra.

Bluepharma releases, today, Friday, the facsimiled edition of the work Codigo Pharmaceutico Lusitano, ou Tratado de Pharmaconomia. The event takes place at 5:00 pm, at the Piso Nobre in Biblioteca Joanina, Coimbra.

“The Codigo Pharmaceutico Lusitano is the second pharmacopoeia from a collection of 10, which Bluepharma intends to edit in cooperation with the General Library of the University of Coimbra and the University of Coimbra Press”, says the president of Bluepharma, Paulo Barradas Rebelo.

The Rector of the University of Coimbra, Prof. Dr. João Gabriel Silva; the president of the Management Board of Bluepharma, Paulo Barradas Rebelo; the Director of the General Library, Prof. Dr. José Augusto Cardoso Bernardes; and the director of the University of Coimbra Press, Prof. Dr. Delfim Ferreira Leão will be attending the pharmacopoeia launch. The event will be conducted by professor of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra, Dr. João Rui Pita.

The Codigo Pharmaceutico Lusitano, penned by Agostinho Albano Silveira Pinto and first edited in Coimbra, hence became the Portuguese official pharmacopoeia on October 6th, 1835. “It is also fairly visible the accuracy, quality and determination that the author has brought into this task”, states Paulo Barradas Rebelo.

Bluepharma has been guided by the importance of these exact same values and expects “to continue to contribute towards the preservation of this heritage with high historic value, as well as to dignify the pharmaceutical profession”.
